DIVE IN LEMBONGAN & PENIDA.
The marine area surrounding Nusa Lembongan offers some of best
diving to be found anywhere! Most of the regularly visited dive sites
are around the three islands of Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan and
Nusa Ceningan. This area now has conservation status in Indonesia
as a Marine Protected Area.
The coral reefs around Nusa Lembongan and the other islands are very
healthy, with an incredibly diverse variety of creatures, and visibility is nearly
always 15-30 m.
It’s famous drift diving in strong currents (which can reach more than
4 knots) make this area full of Surprises!!
However there are many sheltered sites for novices which are
equally amazing. Usual water temperature is around 28°C, but the
strong currents and thermoclines can occasionally bring it down
several degrees. During June-October the water can be cooler and a 5mm
wetsuit is advisable.
Up-welling from the deep water of the Indian Ocean south of the
islands, and plankton rich currents of the Lombok Strait attract many
kinds of pelagics. Sharks are common and big mantas are frequently
sighted. Perhaps the most famous visitor to our waters (from May–
November) is the Mola-mola or Oceanic Sunfish.
There are currently approximately 15 dive sites around these islands, with
more being discovered all the time. They offer a mixture of fantastic hard
corals, colourful soft corals, all sorts of critters from macro to pelagics, and
large schools of fish. Come and Discover what special encounters diving Nusa
Lembongan can bring.
